Abdominoplasty

Is a flabby tummy preventing you from going to the beach?   A tummy tuck may be your solution!

Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen and tighten the stomach muscles.

Why have an Abdominoplasty?

Often woman who have had a baby or recently lost weight may have excess skin over their abdominal region. It is also an option for women who have had previous surgery and have been left with scars. The overall body appearance is improved by reducing and reshaping the excess abdominal skin.

How is abdominoplasty performed?

The tummy tuck procedure is performed under a general anaesthetic. Excess fat and skin is removed from the abdomen and the abdominal muscles tightened. In most cases the navel may need to be repositioned. 2 – 3 days are required in hospital.

Recovery time

Most patients return to work within 2-4 weeks. Normal exercise can be taken up again after 6 weeks. Your surgeon may provide you with a supporting girdle to assist in the healing process.

What results can I expect?

The best results are obtained in patients of near normal weight with excess abdominal skin or with slight excess of fat on the tummy. The result is generally permanent; however fluctuations in weight may affect the benefits of surgery.
