Do you have any problem areas on your body where fatty deposits just won’t shift? Liposuction may help you!
Liposuction is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to remove fatty deposits that can occur on the buttocks, thighs and abdomen. Liposuction can also remove collections of fat from the arms, neck and chin. Liposuction is also called liposculpture or suction assisted lipectomy.
Why is Liposuction an option?
- Along with diet and exercise, liposuction can help remove those stubborn deposits of fat that will not shift.
- Liposuction does not improve cellulite or stretch marks.
- When undertaken with other procedures, such as abdominoplasty, it can improve the overall appearance and provide a better outcome.
How is Liposuction performed?
A general anaesthetic will be required during treatment. A cannula attached to a high powered suction pump is inserted via a small incision so fat stores can be removed. A pressure garment is generally worn for several weeks post – procedure to reduce fat thickness and swelling. Liposuction can be performed as a day procedure or alternatively with a short hospital stay.
Recovery time can vary from a week up to a few weeks. Your surgeon will advise you on healing time and when you can return to everyday activities.
What results can I expect?
Liposuction is ideal for patients who find it hard to move stubborn fatty deposits, even with diet and exercise. Generally the skin covering the area where fatty deposits have been removed contract back into shape. In some circumstances a procedure to remove excess skin (lipectomy) may be required.
